Skid Pad
Car control skills are developed on the Skid Pad’s slick surface, which provides a safe environment for participants to experience the limits of adhesion. Students begin by learning the causes of oversteer (rear) and understeer (front) skids, then they are taught how to control these situations. Eventually the highly sophisticated Porsche Stability Management System (PSM) is activated so the student can feel first hand how the system assists them in regaining control of the car.
Performance Driving Techniques
A training session that focuses on the development of basic driving techniques and visual skills. An emphasis is placed on shifting and braking, along with a slalom where weight transfer management is mastered by learning to applying the correct amount of steering and throttle inputs.
Autocross
This scaled down racetrack creates a series of corners that challenges the participant by combining all driving skill elements – cornering, braking, and acceleration. The Autocross allows the student to use 100% of the Porsche Boxster and Cayman’s potential in a controlled area.
Cornering Dynamics
This exercise is conducted on the skid pad, where the objective is to find the limits of adhesion under acceleration, braking and cornering. This is an intense exercise that requires the drivers to be smooth and develop a feel for the limits.
Lane Change
Driver will have the opportunity to practice high-speed maneuvering through a series of offset gates. Visual skills and hand–foot coordination are developed as students manage the vehicle’s weight transfer.
Michelin Autocross Challenge
The Autocross Challenge pits the groups against each other in this timed relay. Individual lap times, driver changes, and total team times are all recorded with prizes awarded for the winners of each category. This competition becomes a great team building exercise.
Lapping Sessions
The ultimate thrill, instructors pace the participant around the challenging 2.38 mile, 16-turn Barber Motorsport Park in a Porsche Carrera and Carrera S. Track laps are performed in a lead–follow format and are designed to give every participant a chance to follow directly behind the instructor. Speeds gradually increase as students become more comfortable with the driving line.
Off-road Course
Explore the unique capabilities of the Porsche Cayenne on the challenging Off-road Course. Experience harrowing terrain, execute rocky, muddy slopes, climb over rocks and through water crossings on steep trails.
There is so much that goes into expert driving that Porsche Sport Driving School divides these skills into singularly focused exercises. Once each is "mastered", they culminate into a more controlled, confident, and exciting driving experience.
